The North American Baptist Conference announced today that the Executive Committee has accepted the resignation of Dr. Rob McCleland as its CEO/Executive Director effective February 15, 2014.
Dr. McCleland has been the Executive Director/CEO since December 2007. During his six year tenure, Rob has led the International Office through substantial organizational changes that included moving the International Office from Illinois to California. Significantly, Rob has led the conference into a missional movement that has sought to “Equip the Next Generation, Impact the Next Community, and Reach the Next Nation.”
“It has been a great privilege to lead the North American Baptist Conference for more than six years,” Dr. McCleland said. “My greatest energies have focused on being a leader of leaders and bringing significant and necessary changes to a wonderful conference of churches. God has been so faithful to the NAB in daily giving our team the strength, courage, and grace to stay focused and on mission. Across Canada and the U.S., and around the world, we are seeking to fulfill God’s purposes. I truly love our staff, regional ministers, missionaries, pastors and other leaders. I will miss you deeply.”
Dr. McCleland will become the new Executive Director of EQUIP Leadership, Inc., headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. EQUIP Leadership is a non-profit organization specializing in training and mobilizing effective Christian leaders. Founded by brothers John and Larry Maxwell in 1996, EQUIP Leadership is dedicated to developing servant leaders who shoulder responsibility, meet challenges with courage and creativity and never relinquish their God-given dreams.
Bob Fast, the Moderator of the North American Baptist Conference, stated, “We are grateful to God for providing Rob McCleland as the Executive Director of the NAB over the last six years and bringing us into a time of meaningful change and progress. While we are disappointed at his departure, we are excited about God’s direction in Rob’s life. We pray God’s richest blessing on Rob and his family as they transition to this new ministry opportunity to lead leaders for Christ around the world through Equip.”
The Executive Committee will continue to communicate with the entire NAB family regarding future search processes. “Rob told us regularly that he had hired gifted, dedicated, and professional individuals as vice presidents and worked alongside a faithful group of regional ministers; the Executive Committee wholeheartedly agrees,” Bob Fast said. “The Executive Committee knows that the International Office is well-positioned to transition through the coming months with stability and insight. As a result of Rob’s excellent leadership, we are confident in the strength of the organization and eagerly wait on the Lord to lead us into the next chapter of God working through the NAB.”
Many in the NAB family will want to pray for the McClelands during their transition and communicate their appreciation. Rob can be reached at ExecDir@nabconf.org. Please note that the International Office will close at 4:00 p.m. (PST) on December 23, 2013, so that staff can celebrate and serve their families, churches, and communities during the Christmas season. The office will reopen at 7:00 a.m. on January 2, 2014.
