“Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”Galatians 6:2
I want to thank you as an NAB family for bending your knees, arching your backs, lifting some weight, and carrying the burdens of another NAB church family. As you know, on September 4, a fire set by an arsonist destroyed an NAB church, Golgotha Baptist Church, near Tacoma, Washington. On hearing about the destruction, Dr. Rob McCleland, NAB Executive Director, called on NAB churches to participate in a compassionate love offering to help meet the immediate needs of our sister NAB church.
At this time, just over $32,000 has been given by the NAB family to help Golgotha Baptist Church serve the 300 people who call this church home and mourn the loss of their facilities. With great hope, though, Pastor Pavel and the entire church continue to walk by faith and to reach out to friends and families in their area.
Rick Weber, the NAB Regional Minister for Golgotha, worshipped with the congregation this past Sunday and offered words of encouragement and hope as he preached the Sunday message. After interacting with them, Rick reported that “they do not feel alone in the process and are very happy to be a part of NAB. The leaders of the church are standing firm, looking forward, and believing that God will care for their future need.”
The leaders at Calvary Baptist Church, an NAB church in Tacoma, have opened the doors of their facilities to the Golgotha congregation. Golgotha is looking at options for long-term space to meet their ongoing needs, knowing it is difficult—and expensive—to find such space with a congregation of 300. The final agreement and payment from the insurance company may take up to six months of processing. Due to lengthy permitting processes for buildings in the area, the church may not see a new building completed for two or three years.
Please continue to pray for Golgotha Baptist Church, Pastor Pavel, and the leaders of the church as they continue to journey through this time of rebuilding.
