Student Ministry Connections Director – Heartland Community Church

The purpose of the Student Ministry Connections director is to build connections and be relational with students, parents, and schools to assist in the overall Student Ministry vision.

Essential Responsibilities:

Direct and lead the Student Worship experience – 40%

  • Oversee curriculum and other programmatic elements to engage students and families, including the Gathering, classes, and events.
  • Prioritize the safety of students at the assigned campus.
  • Manage events and experiences that encourage the discipleship of students at the assigned campus.
  • Provide oversight regarding technology and worship for student worship experiences.
  • Provide oversight and direction to volunteers during worship services and events.
  • Participate in service planning as directed.
  • “Own the Lobby” before and after in-person services to help students and parents get connected and innovate in this area.

Middle and High School School Ministry – 20%

  • Develop and execute plans implementing a 5th/6th Grade Sunday Morning transition ministry.
  • Update and execute plans for the Middle and High School Ministry.

Middle and High School Student Groups Leadership Development – 20%

  • Recruit and develop a team of volunteers to assist with the Student Groups programs.
  • Oversee and coach volunteers and team members to improve at their craft by giving others an opportunity and platform to lead, while coaching them toward excellence.
  • Regularly meet with volunteers to aid in retention.
  • Support and provide resources to existing Student Group leaders.
  • Lead and participate in off-site retreat and camp trips.

Relational Ministry Duties – 20%

  • Meet with and provide relational investment and leadership to volunteers, those who attend Heartland Community Church, and any interested in learning about the church.
  • Participate in mandatory All Call events.
  • Participate in Heartland’s membership process.
  • Disciple and provide spiritual guidance among staff members and church members.
  • Provide spiritual guidance and refer onto a local network of Christian counseling agencies.

Position Expectations: 20% internal / 80% external

Requirements and Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required or a minimum of five years experience outside of Heartland Community Church leading a Student Ministry.
  • Three years ministry experience required.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow verbal instructions in standard English.


Required Skills:

  • Ability to connect with a wide-range of people to make them feel welcome.
  • Prioritizes their own spiritual formation.
  • Passionate about living out the Heartland mission to find, follow, and share by being welcoming, real, and transforming.
  • Computer literate in Google suite (required).
  • Prefers working in a fast-paced, always-changing environment.


Physical/Other Requirements:

Must regularly lift or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds, using proper lifting techniques such as lifting or moving equipment or help from another staff member. Must be able to work long hours, sometimes with little sleep for retreats, camp trips, and other Student Ministry occasional events.

Working Conditions:

This position offers a flexible working environment with a variety of workspaces due to the expectation of a high percentage of external work. Some local travel will be expected to attend meetings.
