The next senior pastor of Turtle Lake Baptist Church must have the following attributes:

  • Foundational qualities for pastor/elder found in 1 Timothy 3, Titus 1, and 1 Peter 5.
  • High view of Scripture and biblical preaching/inerrancy of Scripture.
  • Highly relational (shepherding and pastoring).
  • Follower of Jesus and mature godly believer; actively growing in his faith.
  • Self and family able to thrive in rural community.
  • Communication skills (oral and written).
  • Be ordained or willing to be ordained by the North American Baptist Conference.
  • Teachable/learner.
  • Have formal training in Bible and theology with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent ministry experience.
  • Must be self-motivated and adaptable to on demand pastoral leadership.
  • Must have good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Agree with current North American Baptist Statement of Faith.
  • Agree with congregational form of government.
  • Agree to the completion of a criminal background check.
  • Agree to a credit score check.

Job Responsibilities/Expectations/Description

Spiritual Leadership and Pastoral Care

  • Help foster the church’s vision of “Disciples Making Disciples” through visionary leadership and equipping the believers.
  • Strong weekly exegetical biblical preaching/teaching.
    • Overall leadership of Sunday morning services in communication with music/technology teams and leading of communion.
  • Consistent communication with deacons.
  • Provide oversight and direction to Bible Hour (Sunday School) and Bible studies.
  • Help strengthen the church body, shepherding and equipping the saints for the work of the Lord.
  • Commitment to time and energy to develop church and community trust specifically in a rural context.
  • Servant involvement in church board, deacons, and other committees.
  • Perform funerals, weddings, baptisms, baby dedications, and special church services.
  • Provide counseling and crisis intervention.
  • Perform basic secretarial duties and daily church operations (phone, printer, order of service, etc.).
  • Keep weekly office hours.
    • Church presence throughout the week.
  • Support youth and children’s ministry.
    • Presence during WOW and Youth events.

 
Connection

  • Visitation (specifically in a rural context).
    • Tractor, combine, cattle, lunch, coffee, races, fishing.
    • Local and regional elderly/sick, hospice, hospital, home, swing bed.
  • School events visitation/involvement.
    • Sports, music concerts, FFA, etc.
  • Strong presence in community and emphasis in ministry.
  • Championing and modeling integration and connecting of volunteers.
