SUMMARY:Gen Z Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Register for the Webinar\n \nAre you curious about the future of the Church? Are you struggling to understand this next generation and how to disciple and equip them to participate in the mission of your local church? Do you wonder how God might be calling and equipping Gen Z in this unique season? These are the kinds of questions we need to wrestle with and discuss as the NAB community. Gen Z is the future of the NAB\, and yet at the same time\, they are also the church now – so how might we as a conference of churches empower and equip these young leaders today? \nIn this webinar\, hosted by the NAB Emerging Leaders\, Paul and Tanya Gericke will guide us about who Gen Z is as a people group and culture\, provide clarity on their strengths and challenges\, and help us consider discipleship implications for this generation. We seek growth and development to help us come alongside and equip these young people. Whether you’re a ministry leader\, parent\, youth worker\, or member of Gen Z yourself\, you’re invited to join us for a pertinent discussion about each of our callings to participate in how God is stirring up this next generation for his Church. \nPaul and Tanya Gericke have been married for fourteen years and have spent most of that time working together as the co-field directors of the NAB mission in Romania. Over the past decade\, their ministry in Romania has focused on raising up the next generation of Kingdom leaders through a center called Camp Falcon Rock. Paul and Tanya have had the unique opportunity to disciple and equip Hungarian-Romanian young adults\, as well as North American young adults who have come to serve with them. Their work has led them on a journey of learning more about Gen Z leaders globally and the unique calling God has on this generation to participate in the mission of his Church. While Paul and Tanya serve in Romania\, this webinar will be focused on Gen Z youth in the West; both Paul and Tanya are pursuing doctoral studies at Kairos University focused on Gen Z research and leadership development. \nRegister for the Webinar

SUMMARY:2024 Triennial
DESCRIPTION:  \nRegister for Triennial \n  \nSince the mid 1850s\, the NAB has been coming together every three years to celebrate who God is and what God has done and is doing. In these days together\, we want to consider again the mission God is on in us and in our world. The 2024 Triennial Conference takes place July 11–14\, 2024\, in St. Paul\, Minnesota. This year’s theme is “Becoming a People of Peace.” \nNAB churches consist of people from many different walks of life and backgrounds. We are brought together by the peace of God found in Jesus. Our shared life in Jesus is a journey where we live in and through that peace. Biblically\, peace is not just the absence of conflict or disagreement\, or a calmness and quiet. Peace as described by God’s Word is finding our wholeness\, fulfillment\, and purpose in life through our relationship to God in Jesus. \nIn a submitted relationship to God in Jesus\, we are transformed into a people of peace\, and at the same time\, we are on the journey of being formed by God into becoming a people of God’s peace. This peace will then be increasingly evident as we live in relationship to others in our communities of faith. At the 2024 Triennial\, we will consider what it means to be peacemakers and peacekeepers as we walk with fellow believers in Jesus Christ. \nBecoming a people of peace also impacts our relationships to the world we live in. Our world desperately needs to know the peace of God in Jesus. This is part of the mission Jesus gave his disciples. At Triennial\, we will explore more fully what it means to become a people of God’s peace in Jesus as we join God in what he is doing in the lives of others all around us. \nThe 2024 Triennial will be a time of worship and celebration\, of hearing God’s truth from God’s Word\, and of hearing stories of how God is using the NAB to bring his peace in Jesus. Won’t you join us? \n\nDr. Harry Kelm\nExecutive Director of the North American Baptist Conference \nRegister for Triennial \n

SUMMARY:Year of Equipping (Application Deadline)
DESCRIPTION:SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION \n \nFor over a decade now\, the NAB has intentionally developed and delivered spaces for training\, discussion\, and spiritual growth. Our strategy has included Blue Ocean\, Discovery\, and Ethos\, each of which involve training leaders and members of NAB churches\, helping them to live into a missional and formational vision for their communities. \nIn a desire to continue to extend this vision into and through our churches\, members of the NAB Executive Team are planning a cohort uniquely designed to reach emerging leaders\, those twenty- and thirty-something women and men who are active leaders of our churches and who will continue to serve NAB churches for the decades to come. We prayerfully seek to continue to expand our points of connection with NAB churches and leaders and deepen the learning and relationships in our conference. \nWe are planning three\, three-month modules\, each reflecting the three modules in Blue Ocean. The first will address questions of who God is and what he is up to; we want to bring revitalization and a fresh biblical vision about the nature and character of the God who wants to reach the world with his mercy and love. The second module takes on the topic of spiritual formation\, as we will discuss how we are (re-)formed in God’s image; if God truly desires his people to be conformed to the character of Christ\, then it is incumbent upon us as his people to really process what this means for us and those we are reaching with his good news. Module three addresses how Christian community flows from the first two; we will discuss what we are to do in light of who God is and how we are formed. \nEach module will have multiple components: a book pertaining to the subject matter\, Zoom discussions\, and one in-person meeting. The goal of this experience is to develop and enrich the relationships of our emerging leaders\, to provide instruction and conversation about the movement of God in the world and how we participate\, and to deepen the preparation of our emerging leaders for the future of the NAB. \nThe application deadline is May 31\, 2024. Those who are accepted will be notified in June. \n \nSUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION

SUMMARY:The Spirit of Our Politics – an EYELET Webinar
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER FOR THE WEBINAR\n \nWe’re thrilled to announce that Michael Wear will join us for a webinar on May 14 to discuss his newest book The Spirit of Our Politics: Spiritual Formation and the Renovation of Public Life. Diving into today’s political landscape\, Wear draws from the insightful teachings of the late theologian Dallas Willard and his approach to spiritual formation regarding our engagement in the political sphere. \nMichael Wear is the founder\, president\, and CEO of the Center for Christianity and Public Life\, a nonpartisan\, nonprofit institution based in the nation’s capital with the mission to contend for the credibility of Christian resources in public life for the public good. For over a decade\, he has served as a trusted resource and advisor for various civic leaders on faith and public life\, including as a White House and presidential campaign staffer. Wear is a leading voice on building healthy civic pluralism in twenty-first-century America. He has argued that individuals’ spiritual health and civic character are deeply tied to our politics and public affairs. \nThe NAB’s emerging leaders team is hosting this event\, but everyone is welcome to join and earn some wisdom from this timely discussion. \nREGISTER FOR THE WEBINAR\nWe strongly recommend picking up a copy of Wear’s book to help you gain the framework for this discussion. You can find it on Amazon or directly from the publisher.

SUMMARY:Evangelistic Equipping
DESCRIPTION:Register for the Training \n \nStatistics indicate that fewer Christians engage in evangelism. While some suggest people have lost confidence in the Gospel\, others would argue the problem lies in how evangelism is taught. We have lost confidence\, not in the Gospel but in the techniques for sharing the Gospel. Many pastors feel stuck between a rock and a hard place. They either teach the techniques they don’t believe work and feel guilty\, or they feel guilty because they don’t teach evangelism at all. Many believe the old models of evangelism are no longer effective\, which makes it difficult to know how to train others. \nThose who do endeavor to equip their people report that they find it just plain hard! It is slow\, frustrating\, and difficult to measure. It takes time and intentionality\, and it is not easily controlled. The attempts that are made feel unsuccessful\, and many feel they are not doing a good job. \nThis training will provide an evaluative framework to help you assess your evangelistic equipping efforts. It will help you to recognize gaps you may need to fill\, find distortions you will want to correct\, and provide a clearer path forward toward helping your church become more evangelistically faithful. \nJoin Merv Budd\, equipping evangelist on the Missional Initiatives Team\, in this four-session\, 60-minute webinar training. The sessions will include: \n\nApril 11 – Understanding the three quadrants of evangelism.\nApril 18 – Understanding the three quadrants of equipping.\nApril 25 – Understanding the distortions of excess and neglect.\nMay 2 – Understanding your congregations needs and developing a way forward.\n\n \nThere are a limited number of spaces available\, so confirm your participation as soon as possible. \n \nRegister for the Training

SUMMARY:The Challenge of Evangelism
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever asked yourself what it is that makes sharing our faith seem like an unwieldy activity? \nWhy is it that so many people in our congregations are reluctant\, and perhaps why you are\, too? \nDoes it seem that evangelism is harder than it used to be? More complicated? Less enjoyable? \nIn this webinar\, we will explore the forces at work that have brought great tectonic shifts in the foundations upon which evangelism was first framed. Those shifts require us to think afresh about evangelism. This webinar will help us think through these changes and consider ways in which we might respond. We will not be looking at solutions as much as understanding the issues. This is a first step in exploring the changes required to evangelize in the 21st century. \nRegister for the Webinar

SUMMARY:Advent in the Neighbourhood
DESCRIPTION:Many of your neighbours may have no idea what Advent is\, but most of them likely get into the festive spirit and are eager to give\, gather\, and share some holiday cheer! All of this makes it a wonderful opportunity for followers of Jesus to discover and unite with the Spirit on God’s mission in their neighbourhoods during this season. \nJoin us on Monday\, December 4\, 4:00–5:30 p.m. (Pacific) when we will reflect on the God who became one of us\, the shift from “come TO” and “do FOR” initiatives to doing and being WITH postures and practices. You’ll also hear a lot of creative ideas and tips for engaging our neighbours\, including how to bear witness to the One Whose Advent is near – even at holiday socials! \nThis webinar will be led by Dr. Karen Wilk\, the Neighbourhood Life Lead on the Missional Initiatives Team and long-time practitioner. \nRegister for the Webinar

SUMMARY:Understanding Indigenous People Workshops
DESCRIPTION:Many people who are non-Indigenous don’t always feel they have a safe place to discuss the issues tied to understanding Indigenous peoples more\, spaces to ask honest questions. \nThis is why the Understanding Indigenous People Workshops are being held. In these online workshops\, we will discuss the last 500 years of North American history. We will see the impact of spending more time listening than talking as we engage with Indigenous peoples. We will learn the ways the academic community uses the terms colonialism and ethnocentrism when describing the last 500 years in North America. And we will learn the impact of colonialism and ethnocentrism on Native peoples\, people God has called the Church to reach with the Great Commission. \nAll these topics\, and more\, will be presented and discussed in a safe learning environment. Our goal is to grow in our understanding of our Indigenous neighbor\, that we might love them the way Christ has called us to in the Great Commandment. Your questions are not merely welcome\, they are coveted. \nThe workshops will take place on Tuesdays at 5:00 p.m. Pacific / 8:00 p.m. Eastern every two weeks starting in October. They will be led by Parry Stelter\, a Bible teacher\, author\, speaker\, workshop facilitator\, chaplain\, and ambassador of Jesus Christ\, as well as ambassador of his fellow Indigenous people. He is originally from Alexander First Nation\, which is part of Treaty Six Territory in the province of Alberta\, Canada. \nWorkshop Days\n\nOctober 10\nOctober 24\nNovember 7\nNovember 21\n\n  \nRegister for the Workshops

SUMMARY:When Church Stops Working
DESCRIPTION:Andrew Root is a professor at Luther Seminary in St. Paul\, Minnesota. A former youth pastor\, Root has a firm grasp on both academics and the way in which we the church need to relate to the current generation of our culture. His six-volume\, scholarly series on the church in a secular age has drawn wonderful reviews\, but many of us need a more simplified version\, so he wrote When Church Stops Working. This is an outstanding book that gets at the issues we the church are facing in the first part of the 21st century. \nWe are privileged to have Andrew Root spend time with us on a webinar dealing with the issues that are keeping us from joining with God on mission.

SUMMARY:Retired Workers' Retreat & Reunion

After a long period of separation\, it is time to once again gather together for one last retreat and celebrate all the Lord has done. \nWe are excited to come together again at Cedar Springs Christian Camp\, May 15–17\, 2023\, and make way for some new retired workers events and traditions in 2024. Please join us for this final retreat\, reunite with old friends\, and meet some new ones. We will be joined by guests Kerry Bender\, Harry Kelm\, and Amber Pedroni\, along with a number of our retiring NAB missionaries. We look forward to seeing you there! \nPricing \nOptional early arrival on May 14 available for additional cost. \nSingle Occupancy Cost – $260/person \nDouble Occupancy Cost – $210/person \nEarly Arrival – additional $100/person \nRegister\nAdditional Details \nCheck-In \nRegular check-in begins Monday\, May 15\, at 3:00 p.m. Early arrival check-in begins Sunday\, May 14\, at 4:00 p.m. Sunday evening and Monday morning will include informal gathering and fellowship. \nMeals \nMeals are included in your retreat registration. SUMMARY:Bonfire
DESCRIPTION:Online registration is now closed for Bonfire. However\, we’d love for you to attend if possible! To check availability\, contact Carissa Steinhart. \n/// \nBonfire is a gathering of NAB leaders who have given themselves to joining God on mission in their various contexts. It is a time to build into deep community with one another\, receive inspiration and continue training together. \nWe are excited to share that David Fitch will be joining us for the main teaching at this year’s Bonfire. Fitch has been a long-time friend of the NAB; for a number of years he has been a crucial part of the third and final gathering of the Blue Ocean cohorts. His book Faithful Presence has had a shaping influence on a number of leaders across the NAB. Fitch has a unique voice that provokes in the best way while still remaining full of grace and truth. We are excited to be able to spend time learning from him. \nFitch’s soon-to-be-released book will form the basis of the sessions we have together; we will wrestle with issues of leadership in the church and how we may have given in to the wrong form of power. Sessions will include topics such as: \n\nThe Problem of Power and the American Church\nWorldly Power and God’s Power: They Are Not The Same\nThe Great Blurring: The Persistent Temptation to Blur the Powers\nThe Denial of God’s Power: The Lure of Christian Nationalism\nPlaying God With Worldly Power: The More Subtle Temptation\nLiving Under the Power of Christ: The Church in God’s Power\nWe Can Be Different: The Church on the Wrong Side of Power\n\nOn Thursday morning\, we will host a number of other key church leaders to wrestle together with what we discovered on Wednesday. \nAdditionally\, if you would like to come in a day early to attend Planter Summit taking place at the same location from April 24–26\, we cordially invite you to do so. \nHotel \nWe will once more be at the stunning Hyatt Lodge in Oak Brook\, Illinois. The grounds are large and covered with serene walking paths and beautiful ponds. For those wanting to explore downtown Chicago on a free afternoon\, it’s just a 30-minute drive away. \nWhether you register for Bonfire alone or choose to come early to take part in Planter Summit\, hotel nights can be booked during your registration. If you want to stay additional nights at the hotel before or after the event(s) you register for\, you will need to contact the hotel to book those nights. You can call them at (630) 568-1234. \nIf you have any questions about your registration\, please reach out to Sara-May Cardy by calling (780) 435-1060\, ext. 30.
