Everyday Church Initiative The North American Baptist Conference wants to invite your church to join an exciting journey of missional engagement in the upcoming year with a host of other NAB churches. In 2012, Tim Chester and Steve Timmis wrote a book based upon 1 Peter that is a great tool for helping your congregation learn to live life and serve others at the margins. The writing is theologically sound and very practical. To accompany this book, usable resources have been created for churches across Canada and the U.S. Our hope is that NAB churches will use this book as a discussion tool with church leaders, and then use the book and materials to guide a preaching series in the fall.
Dear Ministry Friends, For years, NAB has been training church leaders in Russia. God is at work in Russia, drawing people to Himself, and has been gracious to use our efforts to bring theological and ministry education to the next generation of leaders in Russian churches in the Rostov area. With the success of that ministry, we have been asked to transition our leadership development efforts to another area of Russia.  With nine time zones—Russia recently merged time zones from eleven to nine—moving to another ministry area in Russia is almost like moving to another nation. This is exciting ministry. NAB is grateful to God for new open doors and wanted to let you know about these changes so you can pray passionately for our new opportunities. Here is some information you will want to know:
As the end of the year draws near, many will wish to give to the ministries of the North American Baptists, generously planting seeds for our missionaries and churches to preach the gospel, in word and deed, throughout the world in 2013. We are grateful to God for those who so faithfully spread God’s love through financially supporting NAB’s ministries. Thank you for giving! As you consider donating to NAB in tax year 2012, here are a few factors to keep in mind to make sure that we are able to give you a tax receipt for calendar year 2012:
The North American Baptists have a missionary heart for people around the world. This update will focus your attention on three recent missions related interactions. Russia In late November and early December, Dr. Rob McCleland and Tony Dunaway invested their time and talents in training leaders in two Russian cities—Kharbarovsk and Vladivostok. These cities in the Russian Far East—not far from the Chinese and North Korea borders—are major population centers with over 500,000 people living in each. Having spent years assisting in training pastors in Rostov, Russia, church leaders in the far eastern region of Russia have welcomed NAB’s leadership development and Biblical training with open and gracious arms. Dr. McCleland says this about our Russia Ministry:
Moderator’s Musings – Nov 2012 General Council & Executive Committee Meetings   As the board gathered for our first meeting of the current triennium it was great to welcome new members to the Executive Committee (although we do lament the moving on of the others!). With a new member-at-large nominee appointed by the General Council we are now at full compliment. Here are your officers and Executive Committee members for the next 3 years: Bev Smith, Randy Jaspers, Gary Asbach and George Ridley – Members-at-Large; Jackie Loewer – Treasurer; Steve Newman – Vice Moderator; Bernie Kamutzki – Past Moderator; Bob Fast – Moderator and Rob McCleland your Executive Director and CEO. In additional to the normal business items that required attention, a few highlights from this November meeting include:
This update serves as both an informational resource and as a prayer request. This Thursday, November 1, 2012, through Saturday, November 3, 2012 the Executive Committee of the North American Baptist Conference will be meeting at the International Office in Roseville, CA. In addition, the General Council of the North American Baptist Conference will meet via conference call on Friday, November 2, 2012.  Please pray that God would guide and direct NAB leadership during these important meeting. Please go to http://nabconference.org/about-us/general-council if you would like to see a list of those who serve of the Executive Committee and the General Council.
Fall ushers in a busy travel season for the International Office in Roseville, CA. Listed here are simply a few activities that are occurring now and in the coming weeks.
This last week, both Calvin and Susie Hohn, missionaries in Cameroon, and Chris and Ingrid Kidd, missionaries in Brazil, were at the International Office to spend time debriefing and planning with Norm Poehlke. From the reports given by both of these couples, NAB missionaries in both Cameroon and Brazil are serving God faithfully and seeing fruit from their Spirit led efforts.
Greetings from the NAB International Office! I am guessing the focus for many of us has already shifted to fall ministries… cooler weather… pumpkin spice latte’s… audit... well, maybe not the audit, but that is the reality for some of us. Audit season has arrived yet again for NAB staff! September 1st launched us into a brand new financial year, but unfortunately the transition does not just happen that quickly. The coming weeks will be focused on year-end closing procedures, including final gift posting, expense processing, reconciling accounts, and assembling unbelievable amounts of documents for the auditors. For the first time in over eight years we have a new audit firm, so this year will be more time intensive as we bring the new auditors “up to speed” on NAB and our operations.
For months, we have been informing you of the move the NAB International Office would make from temporary offices at Oak Hills Church in Folsom, CA, to our permanent offices in Roseville, CA. Last week, the move became a reality as the staff gathered and boxed NAB office belongings and started to unpack and settle into new facilities. Instead of attempting to describe the walls, halls, and office layouts, we thought we’d provide you some images. Please use these photographs as a stimulus to pray for the staff and the work of the NAB International Office in reaching the world for Christ.
