The call to join God on mission to this world assumes the foundational importance of being Good News in order to effectively proclaim the Good News. When we invite people to follow Christ, we are inviting them into a beautiful way of living. In fact, the first name used to describe the early Christians was Followers of the Way. A community of faith that is learning how to live in this beautiful way will be led by pastors who themselves are experiencing a profound and authentic transformation. The depth of the pastor’s interior life with God—their diligent pursuit of inward goodness—is foundational to the spiritual health of the church. In Leadership Formation, we seek to provide pastors and church leaders with reliable means through which they can more effectively lead their congregations on this journey of transformation.
As part of a renewed theological vision of the church on mission—serving as a sign, servant, and foretaste of the Kingdom of God—we recognize that formation and mission are inextricably linked. There is no authentic spiritual transformation without a heart that seeks to serve others. Spiritual formation into Christlikeness is always for the sake of the world. In the same way, any effective mission to this world depends upon authentic individuals and the communal formation of God's people, through a life of purposeful, disciplined effort, where we cooperate with the transforming work of the Holy Spirit in order to learn how to routinely and easily live as Jesus would if He were us.
