The Director of Operations is a key leadership position within the British Columbia Baptist Association (BCBA), providing vital operational, administrative, and strategic support to the Executive Minister. This role ensures the smooth functioning and growth of the BCBA through policy development, strategic planning, fostering strong partnerships within the community of churches, and financial oversight. The Director will work collaboratively with the Executive Minister, Executive Assistant, Executive Council, and existing church leadership and contribute to the long-term health and sustainability of the BCBA.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Policy (Development &) Management (25%/10 hrs):
  2. A focus on systems development that will include:

    • Initiate, develop, and maintain policies and procedures related to BCBA standards (e.g., gender, marriage, MAiD).
    • Ensure policies are regularly updated in line with evolving church and legal standards.
    • Oversee the management of by-laws, ensuring they are maintained and followed in alignment with BCBA standards.
    • Manage and maintain records for the BCBA related to ordination, pastoral profiles, and church discipline as required.
    • Ensure accurate documentation for accountability, transparency, and growth.
    • Develop and implement a standard for personnel within the BCBA, with a focus on maintaining high quality and accountability in pastor and staff behavior and operations.
    • Administration and oversight of leadership development.
    • Support churches with current Human Resources best practices.
    • Support the Executive Minister in ensuring BCBA governance adheres to policies.
  3. Pastoral Support (25%/10 hrs):
    • Provide pastoral support to the existing BCBA as needed, including visitation, pulpit supply, and overall church support, including preaching network.
    • Provide support to ensure pastors and church leaders are cared for, nurtured, and empowered in their roles.
    • Foster a culture of respect and alignment with the BCBA’s values and vision.
  4. Strategic Planning & Long-Term Development (15%/6 hrs):
    • Support the Executive Minister in strategic planning efforts aimed at organizational growth and the integration of new initiatives.
    • Develop and refine frameworks for strategic partnerships with pastors and other ministry leaders.
    • Assist in fostering relationships and collaboration across the BCBA for long-term success.
  5. Financial Oversight and Procedures (15%/6 hrs):
    • Assist in managing financial processes and data entry to support organizational health and sustainability.
    • Be trained and mentored by existing BCBA leadership to learn and understand the financial management of the BCBA, creating redundancy for processes and providing relief as needed, with the overall goal to ensure smooth operations.
    • Play an active role in yearly budget development, bringing forward ideas resulting from collaboration with the Executive Board, ministry leaders in the churches, and liaising with the Executive Minister and the Executive council to determine annual financial needs and context.
  6. Financial Sustainability and Fundraising (10%/4 hrs):
    • Cultivate relationships with church members and community leaders to support ongoing financial needs.
    • Assist and work closely with the BCBA Treasurer in all aspects of operational finances as required.
    • Develop and implement strategies for fundraising, ensuring sustainable financial health for the BCBA.
  7. Marketing, Promotion, and Information Technology (10%/4 hr):
    • Knowledge of information technology, database systems, and office systems.
    • Enhance the BCBA’s visibility through targeted marketing and promotional efforts, supporting church engagement and growth.
    • Develop initiatives to communicate the BCBA’s mission and values to both internal and external audiences.

Requirements and Qualifications

Qualifications

Required

  • Committed follower of Jesus, evidenced through commitment to grow the local church and the wider Kingdom of God.
  • Knowledge and commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the BCBA.
  • Strong leadership and team-building capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Skills in finance, administration, and project management.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and equip others in financial and operational matters.
  • Forward thinking, able to work with existing leadership and direction of the BCBA.

 

Preferred

  • Pastoral qualifications or experience in a pastoral role.
  • Familiarity with church governance and BCBA standards.

Special Notes

Salary: $85–90,000
Position Type: Full time, with the potential for part-time if shared with another church (TBD)
Location: Preference in lower mainland BC
