Chaplain – South Country Village

The chaplain works in concert with all other departments at South Country Village to ensure that the very best care for our residents, family members, and staff is provided in a consistent and meaningful manner. Our motto is “Caring Is Our Calling”. The chaplain is responsible for the coordination of pastoral care activities within South Country Village, consistent with the Society’s mission, vision, and values.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Grade 12 high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferably an ordained pastor, with several years experience in a church or in institutional chaplaincy, or related work.
  • Computer knowledge.
  • Criminal records check.
  • Experience working with seniors.
  • Experience with chaplaincy services and liaises with the church community.
  • Able to provide counselling.
  • Able to perform basic church rites.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Able to organize and manage files, tasks, schedules, and information.
  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
  • Ability to effectively work independently and within a team.
  • Musical ability an asset.

Special Notes

Formal Duties

  • Conduct Sunday morning church services.
  • Facilitate and/or conduct Tuesday evening chapel service.
  • Conduct bi-monthly Bible studies in conjunction with the Recreation Department schedule.
  • Conduct hymn-sings as required in conjunction with the Recreation Department schedule.
  • Coordinate with Temple Baptist Church regarding monthly birthday party for residents in Haven and participate if able.
  • Attend monthly Department Heads meetings.
  • Safeguards all South Country Village information as confidential.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

 

Additional Duties

  • On call for spiritual and end-of-life needs (contact appropriate clergy if available).
  • Be available to give spiritual support and counsel to residents, families, and staff as requested.
  • Conduct funeral services for residents and/or staff and their family members as required.
  • Connect with new residents and staff in order to advise them of the chaplaincy program.
  • Build relationships with staff and residents in all areas of South Country Village (contracted care and independent living).
  • Conduct the annual Night to Remember service in January.
