Director/Pastor of Community Life – Pilgrim Church
Pilgrim is a 60-year-old church in South Vancouver, British Columbia, that’s seeing renewal and growth. We’re multiethnic, multigenerational, and serious about seeing the joy and hospitality of Jesus expressed in our lives. We believe that Vancouver needs communities where people from opposite ends can come and be known.
This role will serve as the connective tissue of Pilgrim’s community life. The person we’re looking for will coordinate volunteers for Sunday services, keep our kids ministry and hospitality teams staffed and energized, recruit new volunteers, and make sure the people who show up on a Sunday don’t quietly disappear by Tuesday. You’ll also help plan events, supporting our outward and evangelistic presence in the neighbourhood, manage our internal communications, and invest in the discipleship of the families and volunteers you work alongside.
You have a unique mix of attention to details and relational warmth. You can get things done, and done well. You like to design and implement systems that grow healthily, and you take ownership of whatever you touch.
Who You Are
- You are a mature, committed follower of Jesus and love God in a way that shows up in how you lead, care, and return emails.
- People see you as reliable, organized, detail oriented, and relational.
- You find satisfaction in making things run well and people feel seen.
- You’re the kind of person who notices when someone new hasn’t come back and does something about it.
- You’re a builder who develops people and systems that outlast you.
- You can handle, if not enjoy, the mundane aspects of ministry: criminal record checks, expense reports, printer jams, data entry, policy checklists.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Legally eligible to work in Canada
- Available on Sundays
- Must pass a vulnerable-sector criminal record check
- Affirm Pilgrim’s statement of beliefs
Why Pilgrim
We’re not a polished production. We’re a real community trying to follow Jesus faithfully in one of the most secular and lonely cities in North America. Our people are kind. Our food is fantastic. Our preaching is substantive. Of our regulars, 83% are in a small group. We’re led by a lead pastor with a young family who believes the local church is where we’ll find the hope of the world. And we have a team culture where staff are encouraged and empowered to solve problems, speak honestly, and dream together.
Growth & Development
This role has room to grow as Pilgrim grows. As systems stabilize and attendance increases, this position could expand in scope and hours. We’re looking for someone who wants to build something meaningful over time. We also offer a professional development budget to support your ongoing learning and formation.
