Summit Drive Church is a diverse, community-minded congregation who feel called to glorify God by developing caring, passionate followers of Jesus Christ. We believe that God is on mission and calling his people to join him on mission within our city and beyond. Summit Drive Church is located in the beautiful city of Kamloops, British Columbia, where it was planted in 1981 and is associated with the North American Baptist Conference. Summit Drive Church is a mid-sized congregation, with Sunday attendance ranging between 450 and 675 (with two services and online presence), and approximately 1,000 people who call Summit Drive Church their home church.

Principal Function

The pastor of Worship Ministries is a person gifted in the areas of leadership, administration, and encouragement to support the ministries of Summit Drive by organizing and providing musical worship—both on platform worship teams and technical support. The pastor of Worship is a gifted musician who has a passion for musical worship and sees it as a primary responsibility of Christians as part of their wholehearted devotion to God. They approach ministry collaboratively and long to provide opportunities for others to grow in and develop their gifts.

Requirements and Qualifications

This candidate must be a mature follower of Jesus who is dedicated to the ministry of the local church, open and teachable, and must work well in a team setting. This person must be passionate about the function of gathered worship and about leading people in worship through music. A bachelor’s degree is required (preferably in Religious Studies, Education, or Music), with a master’s degree in theology or ministry studies preferred. A level of technological competence is also required.

Key Responsibilities

• Logistical Oversight for Musical Worship (approximately 20 hours per week)
  • Coordinate schedules for volunteers for both on-platform musicians and technical support (sound, media) for Summit Drive services.
  • Work alongside the lead pastor and pastoral team in preparation and planning of our weekly services and other worship events.
  • Oversee set-up and take down of the platform for rehearsals and services.
  • Direct Summit Drive’s use of Planning Center for Sunday service organization and planning.
  • Participate on a worship team and lead worship on a rotational basis. Be available to provide musical support on a regular basis for worship teams as needed.
  • Support other ministries areas that incorporate musical worship (i.e., Women’s Ministry worship nights; Kid’s Ministry events; Sixty-Plus luncheons etc.).
  • Oversee the musical and technical details for events such as a yearly Block Party and other community events.
  • Work with the deacon of Technology and Tech Committee to maintain and develop the tech requirements related to worship and arts ministry.
• Ministry Development (approximately 10 hours per week)
  • Recognize, train, and release new musicians, technicians, and leaders.
  • Coach current leaders, musicians, and technicians to be more effective in the application of their skills to musical worship.
  • Support the development of younger leaders through youth and jr. youth worship leading opportunities.
  • Give leadership and support to arts-related ministries, in conjunction with the vision and purposes of Summit Drive Church, including working with our Cultivated Arts Coffee House ministry.
• Additional Pastoral and Administrative Duties (approximately 10 hours per week)
  • Serve as a member of the pastoral team.
  • Based on giftedness, preach and teach within the church body as required.
  • Perform pastoral functions as required – i.e., weddings, funerals, pastoral counseling.
  • Participate appropriately within denominational networks.
  • Serve the broacher Kamloops community through occasional pastoral involvements, in accordance with the church goals and strategies.
  • Oversee other church ministries as directed by the lead pastor.
