Onward Spring 2020 – The Hope of the Resurrection

BOOKS

THE DAY THE REVOLUTION BEGAN

N. T. Wright

N. T. Wright pushes the reader to understand the robust story of God’s work in Israel and the church that both culminates and inaugurates powerfully in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This book is doctrinally deep and theologically provocative, yet a necessary read for those who long to see the very victory of Christ and the redemptive and reconciling power of God in and for this world.

AMAZING GRACE

Timothy George

Though he doesn’t directly interact with the death and resurrection of Jesus, George explores the doctrine of grace from different vantage points. This short, easy read includes theological, biblical, and spiritual teachings centered on God’s grace. George clearly takes a conservative and reformed position on God’s gift of salvation to humanity, doing so in a gentle and non-argumentative tone.

SCANDALOUS: THE CROSS AND THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS

D. A. Carson

A conservative, reformed theologian and an emeritus professor of New Testament at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Carson centers this text clearly on the person and work of Christ, plumbing the depths of theological and historical understandings about the cross and the resurrection. Typical of Carson’s work, biblical texts are central, but insights into Christian living are included.
