Missional Initiatives Cooperative
By Cam Roxburgh, VP of Missional Initiatives
It has been fifteen years now since I joined the NAB Executive Team. It has been one of the greatest joys of my life. Thanks for your participation in what I believe God is doing within and through the NAB.
Stage 1 – When I joined, there was a lot of excitement around the theological framing of the missional conversation. From 2011 to 2014, we learned together that God is a missionary God and we are to be found in Christ, to become more like Christ, and to join with Christ on mission.
Stage 2 – From 2015 to 2024, through establishing all kinds of programs, such as Ethos, Blue Ocean, Discovery, and Bonfire, we began to explore what it looked like to join with God on mission in the neighbourhoods to which he had sent us. There were many exciting stories that came out of these days.
Stage 3 – But now we have entered a third stage. In this stage, there was a growing of the Missional Initiative Team (MIT) but also a desire to anchor the mission of God in our churches and in our people. Although the conversation has been a joy, without the practice it is just a conversation. God wants to see all people come to know him. He wants to redeem all things.
In order to work together in this stage, we are establishing the Missional Initiative Cooperative. As the name suggests, we need you. To create the kind of movement we sense God calling us to, it will take more than the MIT – it will take all those churches and leaders who have been engaged in the journey with us all of these years.
You will soon be invited to take the “Missional Survey.” This is not a scorecard but rather a conversation starter to encourage us towards action. What does God want to do in us? Then, through connecting with a coach through the MIT, you will explore our new initiative, “Making the Shift”, where we explore eight different shifts we believe are crucial for joining God on mission.
In order to be equipped/helped/served/coached through one or more of these shifts, you will need to join the Missional Initiative Cooperative, which will become the group of NAB churches and leaders who are journeying together towards fully joining God on mission. This cooperative will avail you of our team, of resources, and of specific help for your church. It will also mean that you are agreeing to be part of the journey and participate in helping others.
We look forward to the journey together. Come be part of what God is doing in the NAB.
