Three Questions: Shamoir Griffin

Three Questions is a semi-regular series introducing individuals across the NAB by asking them about their story, their ministry, and what they are learning. These features on members of our NAB family also provide great opportunities to pray for them as we get to know more of their story. This week, we hear from Shamoir Griffin, senior pastor of Neshaminy Valley Baptist Church in Bensalem, Pennsylvania.

What’s your story?

I’m originally from Jersey City, New Jersey, where I grew up in the inner city. The Lord has taken me on a journey that I could not have planned for myself. Over the years, I have served in several ministry roles, including media ministry, young adult ministry, and family ministry. Most recently, my family and I relocated from Texas to Pennsylvania, where I now serve as the senior pastor of Neshaminy Valley Baptist Church.

I’m married to my wife, Alexcia, and we have three daughters. I’m passionate about Christ-centered, expositional preaching; discipleship; and helping believers grow in their understanding of God’s Word. Looking back, I can see the Lord’s providence throughout my life, using both joyful and difficult seasons to prepare me for where he has placed me today.

What’s ministry like for you?

I’m currently beginning my first senior pastorate at NVBC. Because I’m entering an established congregation with its own history, relationships, and ways of doing things, much of my ministry right now involves listening, learning, building trust, and getting to know the people God has called me to shepherd.

My desire is to lead the church toward greater biblical faithfulness while honoring the work God has already done here. That includes preaching Christ faithfully; developing a healthy understanding of the roles of pastors, church leadership, and the congregation; and cultivating a church culture marked by discipleship, a passion for evangelism, and meaningful service.

What are you learning?

The Lord is teaching me that faithful pastoral ministry requires patience. It can be tempting to see what needs to be strengthened and immediately begin trying to change things, but shepherding people is not the same as managing an organization. I’m learning to listen carefully, love people genuinely, and lead at a pace that allows trust and understanding to develop.

I’m also being challenged to depend upon the Lord rather than carrying every burden by myself. This season is reminding me that Christ, not the pastor, builds his church. My responsibility is to remain faithful to his Word, care well for his people, and trust him with the results.

What a blessing it is to be part of the great North American Baptist Conference community. Would you please take a moment to pray for Shamoir Griffin and Neshaminy Valley Baptist Church?
