A Review of Shaped by the Word: The Power of Scripture in Spiritual Formation

by Kent Carlson, VP of Leadership Formation

The late M. Robert Mulholland Jr. has given a great gift to the church in his wonderful book Shaped by the Word: The Power of Scripture in Spiritual Formation. In Shaped by the Word, Mulholland pushes back at the tendency to read Scripture primarily for information. He exposes the temptation for readers of Scripture to use Scripture as a means to control the world, other people, and even God. When we come to God’s Word, the task is not so much to read Scripture but for Scripture to read us.

Momentum in NAB International Ministry

There is no end in sight to the growing movement of God in NAB international ministry. NAB missionaries are experiencing the Holy Spirit at work, bringing the transformational power of the Gospel to its fullness in the lives of individuals all around the world every day.

As North American Baptists, we take pride in the care and support we give to our missionaries. You can share in their efforts to preach the Gospel through giving to support the Global Missions Fund, which helps to provide NAB missionaries with an incredible level of support when they need it most. This frees them to more fully focus on leading people to a saving relationship with Jesus Christ.

Church Planter of the Week

Matt Van Peursem, Catalyst Woodland in Woodland, California. Matt and his wife, Kirsten, started Catalyst as a place that seeks to make the truth of Jesus relevant to those that find it irrelevant, to have a solid Biblical foundation, to love one another, and to avoid unnecessary divisions. They added a second Sunday service last fall, and they formally opened their new location on Main Street in downtown Woodland at the beginning of the year. Pray that Catalyst would manifest God’s presence in their community. Visit catalystwoodland.com for more information.
