In the early days of June, in the foothills of the Andes mountains, the city of Salta, Argentina, was preparing for the first days of winter, the World Cup, and a visit from Randy Schmor from NAB Gateway and Geoff Hartt and Tony Campos from Hispanics for Christ.
The first part of this trip was connecting with sister-church partners Lucio and Amanda Gallo and David Vargas. All three are experienced church planters and Bible teachers, as well as trainers of an up-and-coming generation of young adults who are going into all the world as cross-cultural missionaries! Randy was able speak at two churches – Iglesia Morosini and City Church – and spend time with the students of ESEF Bible Institute. During his time at ESEF, Randy even had the opportunity to challenge the third- and fourth-year students to consider applying to join one of the upcoming Gateway FUSE Trips to the Philippines and Cameroon!
The second part of this trip involved Hispanics for Christ leaders Geoff Hartt and Tony Campos, who taught at a mission conference hosted by ESEF. Leaders from five South American nations were in attendance, some of them sent by NAB missionary Lyndell Campbell Réquia in Brazil. ESEF students were also a part of this conference. Everyone present was challenged to bring their churches and ministries to maturity in discipleship and international mission.
As the work of sending global missionaries moves more and more to be from the Global South, these were amazing events to be a part of. Students and leaders alike were challenged to be a people who are sent as missionaries, going into all the world!

The Year of Equipping is composed of three modules, each three months long and including a reading pertaining to the subject matter, two two-hour Zoom discussions, and an in-person meeting. The three modules reflect the three teaching sessions in Blue Ocean: who God is and what he is up to, spiritual formation and how we are being re-formed in God’s image as we join him on his mission, and how Christian community flows from the first two.
We are entering Year 3 of the Year of Equipping, and we have seen God do amazing things! Our alumni from our first two cohorts have testified to great experiences and rich influence of the teaching to their ministries. We are prayerfully expecting more to come. We look forward to partnering with our churches and our emerging leaders on this journey of transformation. We know our churches will be deeply impacted by how God uses this experience!

Twice a year, a cohort of sending churches and church planters meet in person to learn from one another. Stu Streeter hosts the gathering, but the core of training, discussion, and workshopping is led by the pastors and leaders of the host churches. This is an opportunity to learn at the feet of NAB leaders who are actively sending out church plants, campus launches, and revitalization efforts.
The first gathering of this year’s Sending Church Cohort took place in Fargo, North Dakota, in April. The second gathering will take place September 15–16 in Edmonton, Alberta, where Pastor Jeremy Putz of Central Baptist will lead our time together, sharing about their multi-site model that has continued to expand to new sites in recent years.
We are so committed to the process that the NAB International Office covers all the cost of the cohort once you arrive in the host city.

When God’s people come together in unity, something special happens. Whether it’s for celebration, service, worship, or something more, God’s presence in our world is announced when we gather under his name and for his purpose.
This past May, more than 100 leaders from across the NAB gathered in Medina, Ohio, for Bonfire, where they shared what God is doing in our midst. When asked what was most impactful for them at Bonfire, one participant said it was “the deep yet humble commitment to being on mission together where God has placed us.”
