Ending This Month’s Focus on Prayer With a Testimony

A Testimony on Communal Prayer

By Jeff Russell, New Beginnings Christian Fellowship

In my journey following Jesus, I have always sought to be a growing Christian and have a deepening life of prayer. When I, along with our core group, planted New Beginnings Christian Fellowship in 2002, my personal prayer life was very active. Shortly after starting the church, I experienced the deaths of two sons and a grandson, and I fought Stage IV cancer. My body, my life, my family, and my ministry were in serious jeopardy, but God, in His grace and mercy, held it all together. It is my faith in Christ that has kept me sane and has helped me continue to grow.

For many years, I was trying to hold life, family, and ministry together. Survival, recovery, and faithfulness were the watchwords of my life. By 2015, I had recovered enough for God to begin to show me that something was missing in ministry. It troubled me and I considered leaving Kokomo and starting somewhere afresh. As I sought the Lord on this, I sensed Him calling me to stay right where I was and begin to teach His Church to pray.

Upcoming Sabbatical

The NAB Governing Board is pleased to announce that it has approved a sabbatical for Dr. Daniel Hamil, the NAB executive director. Since he has taken on the role of executive director, we as a conference of churches have enjoyed a spiritual harmony combined with progress and results toward our conference goals. Furthermore, Dan has practiced sincere, self-sacrificial, servant leadership, and this sabbatical is greatly deserved. Following the guidelines of the NAB sabbatical policy, the board unanimously agreed to offer Dan a season of spiritual refreshment and rejuvenation over the coming months of June, July, and August. He is already working to assign various staff members to cover specific responsibilities of the executive director while he is on sabbatical.

On behalf of the Governing Board, I thank all of you for your support of the NAB as together we obey the Great Commission and follow the great commandment of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Blessings to you,
Dr. Mike McNeff
Moderator, NAB Governing Board

Missionary of the Week

Yuri Nakano, NAB Missionary in Japan. As a Japanese-Canadian, Yuri has a unique, God-given background to reach the people of Japan as a missionary sent from North America. God has placed a burden on her heart to bring the hope of the Gospel to Japan and has called and equipped Yuri to serve in evangelism, discipleship, and church planting alongside a faithful team of missionaries. Praise God for a recent trip to Nagoya Inokoshi Church in the Aichi prefecture for a mom and tots event. Pray that the discussions over Yuri and Shan Reed facilitating a ladies seminar in that prefecture would bear fruit. Continue to pray as well for the ongoing ministry at Heijo Christian Church and Kongo Bible Church, both of which Yuri serves at.
