Psalm 131

Even though the Christian journey is full of trials, tribulations, and difficulties – and so often these are the places where we see the Holy Spirit at work in our lives and in our world – there is also rest. “Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest’” (Matthew 11:28 NLT). On this Sabbath, take comfort in the knowledge that following the way of Jesus is difficult, but we may always find rest in him.

LORD, my heart is not proud;
     my eyes are not haughty.
I don’t concern myself with matters too great
     or too awesome for me to grasp.
Instead, I have calmed and quieted myself,
     like a weaned child who no longer cries for its mother’s milk.
     Yes, like a weaned child is my soul within me.

O Israel, put your hope in the LORD—
     now and always. (Psalm 131 NLT)
