Day 30, April 4

“I am thirsty.” –John 19:28

He had to go through Samaria on the way. Eventually he came to the Samaritan village of Sychar, near the field that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was there; and Jesus, tired from the long walk, sat wearily beside the well about noontime. Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, “Please give me a drink.” (John 4:4–7 NLT)

During a contest on Mount Carmel, where the prophet Elijah went up against 450 prophets of Baal to see whose God would answer, the prophets of Baal called out for an entire day without any success. In the middle of all of this, Elijah calls out to them, “‘You’ll have to shout louder,’ he scoffed, ‘for surely he is a god! Perhaps he is daydreaming, or is relieving himself. Or maybe he is away on a trip, or is asleep and needs to be wakened!’” (1 Kings 18:27).

Our God does not slumber or grow weary. Yet, because he chose to become part of our world by being born of a woman, Jesus grew weary from a long walk. He knew He would grow weary, get hungry, feel pain, and all the rest of the sensations we suffer through on a daily basis, but He still chose to be born as a man. He formed all of creation out of nothing in a mere six days, but He chose to be like us, to partake in our experiences, to share in our pain and suffering and our joy and delight. Spend some time in worship, celebrating Jesus for being both God and man, two natures in one person, which means He is the only suitable sacrifice for our sin.
