Nothing on My Own

“I can do nothing on my own. I judge as God tells me. Therefore, my judgment is just, because I carry out the will of the one who sent me, not my own will.” (John 5:30 NLT)

These words of Jesus seem almost other-worldly. And further, in my human brokenness, I cannot help but think of all kinds of things that, if I am honest, I believe I CAN do on my own.

The Son was so intimately committed to the will of the Father, he could not even imagine doing anything solo. On his own. In human strength.

Pray this day that you live in the steps of Jesus, so intimately connected to the will of the Father and committed to the sent-nature of the Son that your own will fizzles in the light of the goodness of God’s voice telling you exactly what to do.
