Times of Transition

New NorCal RM

The NAB International Office is excited to announce that Kent Carlson, the VP of Leadership Formation, has taken on the role of regional minister for the Northern California Association of NAB Churches. Rick Weber, the previous NorCal RM, retired at the end of August. For the month of September, Kent will be serving as RM on a part-time basis as he continues in his role as VP; his role with NorCal will go into full swing beginning in October.

The role of a regional minister is crucial in supporting our local NAB churches and their leaders as we pursue this missional/formational movement in our conference. Kent has stated that he is eager to get closer to the ground floor of where God is at work in the local church. His love for the NAB, for pastors, and for the missional/formational movement will continue to serve him well in his new capacity. He will continue to be involved with a number of ventures through the NAB International office at least through Triennial 2021, including overseeing the Women’s Connection Leadership Team and EYELET, the latter of which seeks to elevate the voices and influence of young leaders in the NAB. He will also continue to work with The Bonfire and the Pastor and Board Development initiative.

Please keep Kent in your prayers as he takes on this new role, praying that God, in His glorious, unlimited resources, will empower him with inner strength through His Spirit. If you have any questions about this transition, or words of encouragement to pass on to Kent, you can contact him at kent@norcalnab.org.

Executive Director Search Committee Update

Dear NAB Family,

It has been a busy summer for the Executive Director Search Committee. We have now had regular Zoom meetings for three months. Our initial work was in developing the process that we would follow and understanding the characteristics that were needed for the successful candidate. From this we developed a series of questions to help us better understand each candidate and how they fit the position description and profile. With the help of the International Office staff, information regarding the position and an application have been posted online. This can be viewed under the Job Posting tab on the NAB website. We are still open to accepting résumés through October 15, 2020.

We are now in the initial stages of reviewing potential candidates as their submissions are received. While the task has been challenging, as we review potential candidates we are excited for what God has in store for us as the NAB family. We believe we are on track to be able to present a candidate to the Governing Board for presentation to the Triennial in July of 2021.

We, as Search Committee members, would appreciate your continued prayers. We know what a difference this can make as we seek to discover God’s plan for us. It is now less than one year until we will gather together again as the whole NAB family at the Triennial in St. Paul, Minnesota, in July 2021. We look forward to seeing you there!

Upcoming Church Planter Assessments

As the NAB continues to invest in church multiplication and those who seek to establish new communities of believers, we are excited to share that there are two upcoming church planting assessments in the next month. The US assessment will take place in Cincinnati, Ohio, September 28–30 through our US partner, Excel Leadership Network, and the Canadian assessment will be in Abbotsford, British Columbia, October 6–8 through our Canadian partner, C2C Collective.

If you are interested in what church planting might mean for you, contact your regional minister to begin the conversation. You can also check out the church planting page on our website for more information on what church planting in the NAB looks like.
